CHRIS HUSBANDS LANDS 3 WINNERS
AT SANTA ROSA PARK
BY CHARLIE HEATH
Young apprentice jockey Christopher "Chris" Husbands continues to show his natural riding ability as he again rode with great success when being asked to ride at Santa Rosa Park, in Trinidad on Saturday September 9, 2006.
Husbands first ride of the day was in the day's second race an Optional Claiming event for 3-year-olds and upwards going 1750 metres, where he finished fourth on OCEANIC MAN.
In Race three, a Starter Allowance contest going 1600 metres on the turf, he finished out of the money on STRAVINSKY'S SECRET.
Husbands next ride was in race five, on the Jamaica bred 3-year-old bay colt, PIARCO owned by Dr. A. S. "Sammy" Haloute and trained by Andrew Nunes.
PIARCO left Barbados as a maiden and was entered in a race for West Indian bred 3-year-old maidens going 1350 metres. The young apprentice made no mistake when winning by 10 1/2 lengths with PIARCO who paid a handsome $17.00 to win.
Husbands next ride was in race seven on the 5-year-old grey/roan, LIT d'AMOUR in a Restricted Handicap event going 1200 metres for owner Dachin Racing Stables (Derek Chin) and trainer Christopher Prime.
The young apprentice rode a confident race to win by a length on LIT d'AMOUR who returned another good win payment of $13.80.
In race eight a Condition Handicap "A" contest going 1750 metres, Chris Husbands was given the leg up on the Elias Haloute and Sir Charles Williams owned, Andrew Nunes trained horse, TOP LADY, another horse that has been racing at the Garrison Savannah, and was now taking her chances at Santa Rosa Park.
Husbands had to ride the race of his life to get the 3-year-old bay filly to rally after being interfered with to past the post second beaten by a head.
Following a Stewards Enquiry TOP LADY was awarded the race and the win gave the young apprentice a triple on the day's card and provided trainer Andrew Nunes with a double.
The young apprentice is now looking forward to Derby Day in Trinidad on Monday September 25, 2006 where he has secured 7 rides on the day's 12 race programme including the highly fancied SARA"S MUSIC in the Royal Oak Rum Derby.
