DAYLIGHT EXPRESS ULTRA IMPRESSIVE
IN ROMPING HOME IN THE BNB FEATURE
BY CHARLIE HEATH
The Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing's 3-year-old bay colt DAYLIGHT EXPRESS confidently ridden by Anderson Ward literally cruised to victory in the feature BNB Major League Stakes & Trophy (GR.1. - BAR) for the top class horses going 1800 metres (9 furlongs).
It was ZARAD who cut the early fractions closely followed by COPY THAT, I'MA LUCKY NATIVE, and the Robert Peirce trained DAYLIGHT EXPRESS.
At the four furlong marker Ward joined a fading ZARAD and by the time they reached the three furlong pole DAYLIGHT EXPRESS was in the lead.
Coming to the two furlong marker inform jockey Chris Husbands on the Liz Deane trained JOHN BRIAN moved into a challenging position in second behind DAYLIGHT EXPRESS, but there was no catching DAYLIGHT EXPRESS who went on to an easy victory from a fast finishing COMPTON FIELDS ridden by Jalon Samuel. The Stephne Goddard owned colt trained by Ken Stanton came from way off the pace to be second. JOHN BRIAN owned by Sir David Seale finished third with DUC D FER finishing fourth.
There were two supporting feature races. The first was the BNB Right Start Stakes & Trophy, for Imported (non West Indian bred) 2-year-olds going 1100 metres (5 ½ furlongs). This was won by the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned WORDS OF THE WISE also trained by Robert Peirce and who was beautifully ridden by Richard Lunan. Second was the J.R Syndicate owned TENPINS DANCER ridden by Rico Walcott and trained by Ken Stanton. Finishing third was Melrose Racing & Clifton Racing's CANDUIT TUYA trained by Richard Deane with Jason Leacok in the saddle while KUDAM finished fourth.
It was unfortunate that the favourite DIVINE MESSENGER was injured while being loaded and finished down the field.
The other supporting feature was the BNB William 'Bill' Marshall DFC SCM Memorial 2-year-old Creole Classic Stakes & Trophy (GR.1R. - BAR) going 1100 metres (5 ½ furlongs).
This was won when Chris Husbands once again came up with a master of a ride to get the Gay Smith owned and bred HEAVEN SENT trained by Edward Walcott Jnr. up on the wire to beat the Attie Joseph III and Saffie Joseph Jnr. owned AREUTALKINTOME with Rico Walcott in the saddle. Third was the Mr. Brain owned HEZBOLLAH trained by Naz Issa and ridden by Jason Leacock.
Chris Husbands dominated the jockeys booting home three winners while apprentice Kenny John continued his good form by landing two winners.
Trainers Robert Peirce, Edward Walcott Jnr. and Liz Deane each saddled two winners.
Racing continues next Saturday, December 6 with the feature races being The Sir Michael Stoute Barbados Oaks (GR.1RF. - BAR) for West Indian bred 3 and 4-year-olds; The Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Youth Male Challenge Stakes & Trophy for West Indian bred 2-year-olds (Colts and Geldings only) and The Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Youth Female Challenge Stakes & Trophy for West Indian bred 2-year-olds (Fillies only).
