The main feature on the Barbados Turf Club's Fifth Day of racing for the Second Season of 2007, the BTBA Sprint Stakes & Trophy (GR.11RB. - BAR) for Barbados bred 3-year-olds and over going 1100 metres ( furlongs) was won by the Lord Michael Taylor - Clifton Racing's owned bay gelding DON ANGLESONNY trained by William Clarke and superbly ridden by Richard Lunan.

When Starter Mark Batson sent the six  - horse field on their way it was THE NAVIGATOR with Anderson Trotman in the irons the first struck the lead followed by SHOCK AND AWE with KABUL in third.

At the three furlong marker the Sir Charles Williams owned THE NAVIGATOR trained by Andrew Nunes still held a one length lead from SHOCK AND AWE while the Faraway Stables owned KABUL with Chris Husbands was locked in a battle with RIBO TANGO and WHAT A SPLASH with DON ANGLESONNY outpaced in last position.

With two furlongs to go Husbands asked the Clayton Greenidge trained KABUL with the topweight of 132lb. was alongside THE NAVIGATOR with DON ANGLESONNY now in full stride closing in on the leaders with every stride.

With 50 yards to go any one of the four KABUL, THE NAVIGATOR, RIBO TANGO or DON ANGLESONNY could have won as a blanket could have covered the four, but it was in the last stride that DON ANGLESONNY got his head to hit the wire first to win by the shortest of heads with KABUL second also beating the THE NAVIGATOR by a short head. Fourth was RIBO TANGO.

In the days co-feature the inaugural running of the Kathleen Taylor Memorial Stakes & Trophy for West Indian bred 2-year-olds going 1100 metres (5½ furlongs), it was The Arthur Brothers 2-year-old MARCUS AURELIUS trained by Peter Arthur and ridden by Chris Husbands that made it a pole-to-pole victory.

Husbands had the young colt out of the gates like a rocket and although being chased by SPORTIN' DREAM and EXPLODING LADY, however there was no stopping MARCUS AURELIUS from chalking up his second straight win. Lord Michael Taylor - Clifton Racing's EXPLODING LADY, trained by William Clarke and ridden by Martiniquan apprentice Luana Lalung ran a good to be second while the Raphael Green owned, Victor Cheeseman trained ITARA with Richard Lunan in the irons finished third. Fourth was another Victor Cheeseman trainee, BHAGDATIS owned by Mrs. Diane Moseley.

Jockey Richard Lunan and the very much improved apprentice Jonathan Grant both rode two winners on the day's card.

Trainers Peter Arthur and William Clarke were the day's most successful trainers each saddling two winners.

Owners Lord Michael Taylor - Clifton Racing won two races while The Arthur Brothers also won two races.

Racing is scheduled to continue on Saturday, October 27, 2007 which is the  United Insurance Barbados Derby Raceday the third and final Jewel in the Barbados Triple Crown. The day will also feature the inaugural running of the T. A. "Tommy" Peirce Memorial Trophy for A1 + Lower class horses over 1100 metres ( furlongs).

The Barbados Turf Club could not have picked a better day for the inaugural running of this race as the work that "Tommy" put in over the years to make the United Insurance Barbados Derby (GR.1R. - BAR) the success it has been will be remembered by all those in the racing industry for many a year to come.

Listed below are the entries at the final subscription stage for the 68th running of the United Insurance Barbados Derby (GR.1R. - BAR) and the 1st anniversary of the T. A. "Tommy" Peirce Memorial Trophy.
