BY CHARLIE HEATH
Luther G. Miller III J.P., FEET ON FLAMES was crowned Horse-Of-The-Year 2005 at the Garrison Turf Awards on Friday January 27, 2006 and on Saturday January 28, 2006 at the Garrison Savannah the Third Day of the Barbados Turf Club's First Racing Season the 7-year-old horse showed that in 2006 he will again be a force to be reckoned with.
As the gates opened for the feature Coolmore "Home Of Champions" Stakes & Trophy (GR. 1 - BAR) for the A & Lower horses over 1800 metres (9 furlongs), it was the much talked about ZARAD with Jono Jones in the saddle that struck the front followed by stable companion SHARP IMPACT with Andy Ward and FEET ON FLAMES with Anderson Trotman.
Passing the stands for the first time the Robert Peirce trained ZARAD was 6 lengths clear of SHARP IMPACT with FEET ON FLAMES tracking in third.
With four furlongs to go ZARAD was quickly shortening his stride as SHARP IMPACT drew along side of him whilst FEET ON FLAMES was also closing.
At the three furlong marker Anderson Trotman eased FEET ON FLAMES into the lead as both ZARAD and SHARP IMPACT were fading and at the same time Ricky Walcott asked INLUCK for an effort.
Entering the straight FEET ON FLAMES was in control and went on to win like a true champion. INLUCK finished second and DUC D FER third.
The Guardian General Breeders' Stakes & Trophy (GR. IIR - BAR) for Barbadian bred 3-year-olds over 1570 metres was won by BODY N SOUL with Randy Cumberbatch in the saddle. The highly favoured ZOUK had problems at the gates before the start which may have cost her the race. She however was still able to finish second with POETIC JUSTICE third.
Anderson Trotman rode two winners. He won the feature with FEET ON FLAMES and the first race on the card with DREAM CATCHER.
Juan Crawford also rode two winners. He won the second race with CAPTAIN P.J. and seventh with RIBO TANGO.
Among the trainers Andrew Nunes, William Clarke and Robert Peirce each won two races.
Races continues on Saturday February 11, 2006 with the Rotherley Construction Inc. Stakes & Trophy being the feature on the day.
