FRESH MILK & EASTERN PEACE WIN DIAMONDS RACES

BY CHARLIE HEATH

Sunset Farms 2-year-old chestnut filly Fresh Milk, ridden by Paul Leacock and trained by Boston John, put down another outstanding run to win the co-feature Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Youth Female Challenge Stakes & Trophy, run over 1100 metres (5 ½ furlongs) on Saturday December 15, 2007 at the Garrison Savannah, the Fourth Day of the Barbados Turf Club's Third Racing Season.

From the time the horses reached the two furlong pole the only horse that was in a position to challenge Fresh Milk was the Gay Smith owned, Edward Walcott Jnr trained, Queen Titania with Shane Collymore in the saddle.

But there was no stopping Fresh Milk as she ran out an easy winner from Queen Titania with Music Lover third and Storm Goddess fourth.

Unfortunately, Exploding Lady, the only horse entered in that race with a chance to go forward and be eligible for the $100,000 bonus offered by the Barbados Turf Club and Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet had to withdraw at 8.30AM due to a cut on her foot.

The other co-feature was the male version of this race and at this stage Vandross was the only horse that could possibility go forward with a chance of winning the $100,000 bonus, however that was not to be as the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned Eastern Peace, trained by William Clarke and ridden by Anderson Ward made light work of the opposition.

Thunder Bird owned by the Faraway Stables, trained by Clayton Greenidge and ridden by Rocco Bowen was second; the Lord Michael-Clifton Racing's, The Welch Wizard ran a beauty of a race to be third as he completely missed the break and with two furlongs to go he seemed hopelessly out of it, while Brynsynkin finished fourth.

The Sir Michael Stoute Barbados Oaks (GR.1RF. - BAR) for 3 and 4- year-old fillies over 2000 metres (10 furlongs), was won by the Sir Charles and Lady Williams owned Border Secret, who was confidently ridden by Anderson Trotman. Second was the Attie Joseph III and Saffie Joseph. Jnr owned Walk On By, trained by Hayden Nicholls and ridden by Anderson Ward. Top Lady finished third and Kate O'Connor fourth.

Border Secret also won the 2006 running of the race.

Anderson Ward was the jockey of the day winning three races while Apprentice jockey Shane Collymore won two.

Trainers Roger Parravicino J.P. and Elizabeth "Liz" Deane both saddled two winners.

Racing continues on Wednesday December 26 (Boxing Day) with the features being the Victor Chandler Stakes & Trophy (GR.1. - BAR) and the Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet Bonus Challenge Stakes & Trophy (GR.1R. - BAR), the fifth and final race in the Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet series of races for West Indian bred 2-year-olds.
