The feature Barbados Fillies Guineas (GR.IRF-BAR), for West Indian bred 3-year-old fillies, going 1570 metres(7.8 furlongs), was won on Wednesday June 11, 2008, the Second Day of the Barbados Turf Club's Second Racing Season by the outstanding filly Fresh Milk owned by Sunset Farms.

The Boston John trained Fresh Milk was once again confidently ridden by jockey Paul Leacock. This filly has now chalked up her sixth win from 9 starts for earnings of $198,054.

When starter Mark Batson sent the horses on their way on a rainy afternoon it was Legally Blonde, HOT STUFF and EXPLODING LADY who set the early fractions while Leacock was content to sit in fifth position just off the pace.

With three furlongs to go Anderson Trotman on the Jim Brewer and Michael Panter owned HOT STUFF picked up the running from Legally Blonde while at this stage Leacock started to make his run on Fresh Milk.

At the two furlong marker Fresh Milk had collared the Andrew Nunes trained HOT STUFF who was running her best race to date and by the time they turned for home it was all Fresh Milk as she went on to a conformable victory. HOT STUFF held on for second while Gay Smith's, QUEEN TITANIA trained by Edward Walcott Jnr. and ridden by Chris Husbands finished third, with Elias Haloute's CHICA BUENA, trained by Victor Cheesman and ridden by Kenny John fourth.

The supporting feature The Val Gale Cup (GR.111-BAR) for the top class horses going 1800 metres (9 furlongs) was won by the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned PURE TEMPTATION, trained by leading trainer William Clarke and ridden by leading jockey Anderson Ward. Second was another Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned horse, COPY THAT, trained by Robert Peirce and ridden by Kenny John. SPICEY TIGER owned by Mrs. Gay Smith, trained by Edward Walcott Jnr. and ridden by Wesley Cave finished strongly to get third whilst WHO'S WAVERING after setting the early fractions in the race finished fourth.

Leading owners Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing once again had a good day landing four winners, starting with RIBO TANGO in the first; GIOVANETTI in the third; PURE TEMPTATION in the sixth and MISS SPITFIRE in the seventh. Jockey Anderson Ward was the winning jockey on all four horses, as was William Clarke the trainer of the four horses. Jockey Juan Crawford was the only other jockey to win more than one race on the card as he won the second race on WHAT A SPLASH and the final race on SUPERCHARGE.

The Barbados Turf Club must be pleased with the decision they made to put the races on Wednesday afternoon (June 11) after the postponement last Saturday (June 7, 2008) as there was a very good crowd on hand to witness the days card.

Racing continues on Saturday, June 28, 2008 with the day being promoted to remember late jockeys who have contributed to the sport.
