FRESH MILK TAKES THE MICHAEL PARRAVICINO MEMORIAL BREEDERS' HOPEFUL STAKES & TROPHY (GR.11RB. - BAR) IN A THRILLING FINISH
BY CHARLIE HEATH
McDonald Stevenson's Sunset Farms 3-year-old chestnut filly Fresh Milk won the Michael Parravicino Memorial Hopeful Breeders' Stakes & Trophy (GR.11RB. - BAR) the feature event at the Garrison on Easter Monday Match 24, 2008, the Seventh Day of the Barbados Turf Club's First Racing Season.
From the off it was Andy Ward on the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned Exploding Lady trained by William Clarke who set out to make all the running.
However, Jono Jones on the Gay Smith owned Golden Moon trained by Edward Walcott Jnr. matched strides with Exploding Lady while Paul Leacock on the Boston John trained Fresh Milk settled the filly off the pace.
These two battled to the bottom of the straight when Fresh Milk joined them.
With fifty (50) metres to go Fresh Milk got the better of Exploding Lady and went on to win. Exploding Lady although running a good race had to settle for second while Luana Lalung brought Royal Emblem with a strong run to get up for third place. Golden Moon finished fourth.
The supporting feature the Realtors Limited Trophy (Condition Race) was won in fine style by the Miller St. John owned filly LETHAL LIESEL with young Kenny John in the saddle.
The Aysha Syndicate owned WHO'S GROOVY trained by Liz Deane finished second with WASH BROOK third and PREACH TO ME fourth.
Anderson Ward again had the honours among the jockeys winning three races while apprentice Kenny John rode two winners.
This young apprentice has improved by leaps and bounds and looks to be heading for a great future. He is sure to be in winners circle many more times this year.
Trainer Boston John not only landed the most winners among the trainers, but saddled the winner of both feature races.
It was again the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owner combination that was the most successful among the owners winning three of the nine races on the card.
The Bakers Mart 2008 Easter Amateur Riders' Trophy was won by the Rugby Farms INSHALLAH ridden by Jamar Yerawood.
Racing continues on April 12 on which the Barbados Turf Club will Salute the 2007 Champions; Hall Of Fame Inductees; Special Contributors to the Industry and the 2006 Triple Crown winner and Horse-Of-The-Year ZOUK.
