I'MA LUCKY NATIVE WINS THE

"PENNY" DEANE MEMORIAL TROPHY

The feature Penelope "Aunt Penny" Deane Memorial Trophy (Condition Race) for the C1-D1 class horses going 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) was won at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday April 12, 2008, by the C. N. "Nick" Parravicino BCH owned I'MA LUCKY NATIVE.


When starter Mark Batson sent the seven horse field on their way it was the filly SPRITE that took the early lead followed by I'MA LUCKY NATIVE with Juan Crawford in the saddle and COPY THAT with Andy Ward. These three led the field until they reached the three furlong marker when SPRITE, who was having her first start since being off for five months with an injury, started to fade.

It was the Roger Parravicino trained I'MA LUCKY NATIVE that then took the lead followed by COPY THAT and MORETHANAWOMEN.


As they hit the line it was I'MA LUCKY NATIVE first from the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing COPY THAT trained by Robert Peirce. Third was the Sir Charles Williams & Lady Willimas owned BORDER SECRET with Anderson Trotman and fourth was TIGA LILY.


The supporting feature the 2008 Hall Of Fame Inductee Senator John Hutson BCH Trophy (Handicap) for Imported (Non-West Indian bred) 3-year-olds Non-Winners of 2 races in career and maidens going 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) was won by the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned DAYLIGHT EXPRESS ridden by Andy Ward and trained by Robert Peirce. Second was MESSI with WASH BROOK third and PROUD BAJAN fourth.


Anderson Trotman was the only jockey to score twice.


Two apprentice jockeys won for first time. First it was Antonio Bishop, who won race four with ZOOM and then in the sixth it was Lester Edwards who won on MISS SPITFIRE.


Trainer Edward Walcott Jnr. was the most successful trainer on the day as he saddle three winners while Andrew Nunes also had a good day winning the first two races on the card.


Owner Gay Smith had a very successful day winning three races to move her tally to six for the season.


Racing continues on Monday April 28, 2008 with the feature being the Digicel Barbados Guineas (GR.1R. - BAR) for West Indian bred 3-year-olds, the first Jewel of the Barbados Triple Crown.
