KENTUCKY CHILL TRIUMPHS IN

THE OCALA BREEDERS' SALES TROPHY

BY CHARLIE HEATH

Donovan Yeo piloted the 3-year-old bay colt KENTUCKY CHILL to an impressive victory in the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company Trophy at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday April 1, 2006.

The race for Imported (Non-West Indian bred) 3-year-olds winners and maidens over 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) was the feature event on the Seventh Day of the Barbados Turf Club's First Racing Season of 2006.

KENTUCKY CHILL, which was purchased from the June 2005 Ocala Breeders Sale, collected the very lucrative purse of $33,000 for the win along with a beautiful trophy.

Eight horses faced starter Mark Batson for this feature race with all eight being purchased through the Ocala Breeders Sales.

First out of the gates was TURBULENT GUY with apprentice jockey Jonathan Grant followed by KENTUCKY CHILL and LIGHTNING PILOT.

Going up the backstretch with over five furlongs to go TURBULENT GUY continued to lead followed by LIGHTNING PILOT with Anderson Trotman in the saddle as Donovan Yeo on KENTUCKY CHILL decided to sit in third behind the two front runners. The highly favoured ATUL ridden by Paul Leacock was in fourth.

The positions remained the same until the horses reached the two furlong marker when the Roger Parravicino trained LIGHTNING PILOT picked up the lead closely followed by Yeo on the William Clarke trained KENTUCKY CHILL. At this point Paul Leacock on the Clayton Greenidge trained ATUL moved into third.

Turning for home with a furlong to go KENTUCKY CHILL picked up the lead and went on to score by lenghts over ATUL who had got the better of third placed LIGHTNING PILOT with HEAVY ROLLER finishing fourth.

The much looked forward to Lost In The Fog Trophy (Handicap) for the A1-C3 sprinting 1100 metres ( furlongs), was won by the Gay Smith owned, Robert Peirce trained SHARP IMPACT who has shown in his last two starts that as a 6-year-old he is a vastly improved horse.

SHARP IMPACT left the gates like a rocket with jockey Randy Cumberbatch in the saddle, and made it a pole to pole victory shouldering the big weight of 134 pounds.

TOBY'S DREAM ran a beauty of a race to be second; creole CAPTAIN P.J. was third whilst BIRDIE POINT finished fourth.

Jockey Anderson Trotman was the most successful jockey for the day winning three races whilst Randy Cumberbatch won two.

Andrew Nunes was the only trainer to saddle two winners on the eight-race card.

Racing continues on April 17, Easter Monday with the feature event being the BANKS BARBADOS GUINEAS (GR. 1R - BAR) the first leg of the local TRIPLE CROWN.
