There was no betting on the final day's racing for 2007, Wednesday December 26 (Boxing Day), as the tote system crashed and was down for the complete day.
Racefans were very disappointed as only a few race days ago the system did not work for the first couple races, a sure sign that all was not well with the system.
However, full credit must go to the fans, who although disappointed, showed the tolerance that is not seen in many, if any other sport, today.
They stood there ground for the complete nine race card cheering on their favourite horses and jockeys with little complaint.
The co-feature Victor Chandler Stakes & Trophy (GR.1. - BAR.) for the A1 and Lower class horses over 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) was won by the Aysha Syndicate's Who's Wavering trained by Elizabeth Deane and ridden by Anderson Ward.
Ward put the 7-year-old mare to the front from the off and was tracked for most of the race by the the favoured Sharp Impact with apprentice Shane Collymore. But there was no stopping Who's Wavering and she ran out a comfortable winner from the 3-year-old Pure Temptation, owned by Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing, trained by William Clarke and ridden by Jonathan Grant. Sharp Impact held on for third and Duc D Fer finished fourth.
The other co-feature the Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet Bonus Challenge Stakes and Trophy, for West Indian Bred 2-year-olds over 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) was won by the chestnut filly Fresh Milk, owned by the Sunset Farms, trained by Boston John and well ridden by Paul Leacock.
This very attractive relaxed looking filly showed not only her class when winning, but also the heart and fight she has in her as with four furlongs to go she was badly hampered and was still able to recover and finish like a train to win.
The Gay Smith owned, Edward Walcott Jnr trained Golden Moon with Shane Collymore in the saddle finished second with Thunder Bird third and Mahogany Bird fourth.
The win made Fresh Milk the leading points earner in the Diamonds International/Audemars Piguet Series and she won prizes for her Owner, Breeder, Trainer, Jockey and Groom.
Apprentice Shane Collymore had a fantastic day in the saddle booting home four winners as well as finishing second in two other races.
This young apprentice after being out of racing for a while is back with a bang and seems to have a great future ahead of him.
Apprentice Rumesh Selman rode a good race on the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing's Bouncebak in the days fourth race to record his first career win.
Trainer Elizabeth "Liz" Deane saddled three winners while William Clarke and Edward Walcott Jnr saddled two winners each.
Racing continues on Saturday, January 5, 2008 with the feature race being the inaugural Legends and Veterans Jockeys Race for F3 and Lower class horses.
