TRAINER ELIZABETH DEANE LANDS ONE-TWO

PUNCH IN BOTH FEATURE RACES

BY CHARLIE HEATH

Trainer Elizabeth 'Liz' Deane brought the curtain down on the final day of the Barbados Turf Club's Second Racing Season in fine style.

The female trainer who only recently saddled her 400th winner, on Saturday September 27, 2008 saddled the first and second place horses in both feature races at the Garrison Savannah.

In the feature Garrison Savannah Handicap for the A and lower horses sprinting 1100 metres ( Furlongs), Deane finished first and second with the Aysha Syndicate's pair of WHO'S WAVERING and WHO'S CRUSIN.

From the off Anderson Trotman on the Andrew Nunes trained APOSTLE tried to make all the running but apprentice Kenny John on WHO'S WAVERING would have none of it and kept breathing down the creole's neck while Anderson Ward on the Lord Michael Taylor-Clifton Racing owned KINGDORA was happy to settle in third behind the two pacesetters.

At the two furlong marker John asked the 8-year-old bay mare to kick on and from there there was no catching her. On the line her stable companion WHO'S CRUSIN with Juan Crawford in the saddle finished second while KINGDORA trained by Robert Peirce ran another good race to finish third. The Sir David Seale owned JOHN BRIAN also trained by Deane ran on to be fourth with Chris Husbands in the irons.

In the supporting feature, The George Washington House (Condition) Race) for the Imported (non-West Indian bred) 2-year olds, going 1100 metres (5½ Furlongs), Deane again saddled the first and second placed finishers.

This time when the gates opened it was the Lydia Wright and Sir David Seale owned 2-year-old, United States bred chestnut colt, DIVINE MESSENGER trained by Deane with Chris Husbands in the saddle that picked up the running after a few strides and from there it was all over as this very promising young colt made light work of the others. His stable companion GREGORY'S GIRL, owned by Lady Seale and Lydia Wright, ridden by Anderson Trotman finished well to pick up the second place. TENPINS DANCER owned by J.R. Syndicate, trained by Ken Stanton and ridden by Juan Crawford was third while the Luther Miller III J.P. and Mrs. Suzan Miller owned BLOUMBERG trained by Victor Cheesman and ridden by Kenny John was fourth.

Deane in addition to delivering two one-two punches in the feature races delivered yet another for the Aysha Syndicate in the third race when TIME D'OR with Juan Crawford won from WHO'S GROOVY with young apprentice Kyle Carter.

Then in the final race, The Pavilion Court (Condition Race) sprinting 1000 metres (5 Furlongs) for the F1 - F3 class horses, Deane still had more blows to share, this time she won with another Aysha Syndicate horse, WHAT A SPLASH with Juan Crawford in the saddle.

The outstanding days performance gave Deane the Trainers title for the Second Racing Season in both the earnings and win categories.

Another young promising apprentice had a day that will remain with him for life and he is the light weighted Kyle Carter who won his first race on the Lisa Wheeler owned GOLD DIGGER trained by Roger Parravicino.

The Barbados Advocate congratulates the young jockey who is sure to go on to win many more races in the future.

Four jockeys scored two wins each on the day Juan Crawford, Anderson Trotman, Chris Husbands and Kenny John.

The trainers section was dominated by Elizabeth 'Liz' Deane with four wins, while owners Aysha Syndicate won three races.

Racing continues on November 8, which is the First Day of the Third Racing Season with the feature races being the BTBA Juvenile Championship Stakes & Trophy (GR. 1RB - BAR) for Barbados bred 2-year-olds and the Sagicor Breeders' Classic (GR.1RB. - BAR) for Barbados bred 3-year-olds and over.
