The first Jewel of the Barbados Triple Crown, the Banks Barbados Guineas(GR.1R - BAR), which was the feature race on Easter Monday April 17, 2006, the final day of the First Racing Season of 2006, was won by the Richard Edwards owned 3-year-old bay filly ZOUK who is by Carpe Diem out of Jazz Girl by Boomerang.

When the eight horses left the gates for the 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) race it was Anderson Trotman on the Sir Charles Williams owned FIRST CLASS TICKET that went to the front followed by ZOUK ridden by Patrick Husbands BSS, who had flown in from Canada to ride the filly.

Going up the backstrech it looked like these two fillies would once again be battling it out to the wire, whilst the others in the race were finding it difficult to stay in touch at the cruising speed of these two classy fillies.

With two furlongs to go Husbands BSS eased the Naz Issa trained ZOUK up to challenge FIRST CLASS TICKET but on this occasion the Andrew Nunes filly had no answer to ZOUK who went on to an easy victory. The improving BACHELOR BOY finished third whilst QUEEN OF SHEBA ran on well to be fourth.

The Banks Beer Trophy Handicap for the top class horses going 1570 metres (7.8 furlongs) saw the Robert Peirce trained ZARAD trying to make all the running with jockey Patrick Husbands BSS, but it was apprentice jockey Shane Collymore on the Elizabeth 'Liz' Deane trained DUC D FER who produced a late run to get up on the wire to win. INLUCK was third and WHO'S WAVERING fourth.

Jockey Anderson Trotman and Apprentice Shane Collymore both rode two winners whilst trainers Clayton Greenidge, Andrew Nunes and Elizabeth 'Liz' Deane each saddled two winners.

Racing is scheduled to continue on June 10 with the feature event being the C. O. William Group Of Companies Fillies Guineas (GR.1R - BAR). Listed below are the entrants at the third subscriptions stage.
