ZOUK SCORES FIGHTING WIN IN THE MICHAEL PARRAVICINO MEMORIAL HOPEFUL BREEDERS'

STAKES & TROPHY (GR. 2RB - BAR)

The Richard Edwards owned 3-year-old bay filly ZOUK won the feature Michael Parravicino Memorial Hopeful Breeders' Stakes & Trophy (GR. 2RB - BAR) on the Barbados Turf Club's Sixth Day of the First Racing Season, Saturday March 18, 2006.

Eight horses faced starter Mark Batson in the feature and from the time the horses left the gates FIRST CLASS TICKET and ZOUK showed their class by turning the event into a match race.

It was the Sir Charles Williams owned FIRST CLASS TICKET with Anderson Trotman in the saddle who got first run on ZOUK with Paul Leacock in the irons. One and a half lengths back in third was VAN HELSING followed by EASTER MONARCH.

Turning for home in the 1570 meter (7.8 furlongs) event Trotman got the Andrew Nunes trained FIRST CLASS TICKET to edge ahead of ZOUK but with ten metres to go Leacock got ZOUK to put in an extra effort and she was able to nip FIRST CLASS TICKET by a short head in the last stride. EASTER MONARCH finished third and VAN HELSING fourth.

This was another fine effort by ZOUK who was giving FIRST CLASS TICKET two pounds due to having to picked up two pounds overweight for the services of jockey Paul Leacock.

Jockey Donovan Yeo was in great form and booted home three winners. He rode a beauty to get up in the last stride on RIBO TANGO to win the first race; repeated in race three with another good ride to snatch victory with KENTUCKY CHILL and won race five with WHISPERING.

Trainer William Clarke continues to turn out winners and he was the only trainer to saddle two winners. He won with RIBO TANGO in the first race and then won the third race with KENTUCKY CHILL.

Clarke has only saddled 32 horses for the season but he has already won 11 races with an excellent strike rate of 34%.

In the sixth race the combination of DRUM ROLL (1st), PERONNE (2nd), MANDALAY (3rd) and RESTLESS RULLAH (4th) returned a superfecta dividened of $17,044.00.

Racing continues on Saturday April 1, 2006 with the feature being the $60,000.00 OCALA BREEDERS' SALES COMPANY TROPHY over 1570 metres for Imported (Non-West Indian bred) 3-year-olds.
