Analysis:

Another dazzling performance by PURR CLASS got the day's racing off to a start, and set the tone for what would be virtual domination by the island's leading barn. The attractive chestnut made all the running and won comfortably despite breaking from the widest berth. Jockey Ward only needed to point the daughter of Greatness in the right direction, and ask for a moderate effort to shake off mild pressure from the runner-up. She looks a very decent sprinter (at least) in the making, but may be asked to stretch a bit to a mile next time out when placing her perfect 3-race record on the line. Indanger was withdrawn last time out when failing to load the starting gate. He was a more favourable character today and ran as expected, finding only the winner too good to prevent his second win from three outings. He's been never lower than second, and is also expected to progress into a nice three year old. Mingun Temple was blinkered first time today, but the new equipment did little to improve his effort and chances of a maiden win on this occasion. He still looks a promising colt, and with time and distance could be a force to reckon with. Dany Dany was perhaps most disappointing of the batch, after just coming up short of his first win two weeks ago. To be seven a half lengths behind the winner who he chased by just a length on that occasion, suggests that he was perhaps not on his best form today.   [ROG]

Analysis:                                                                                                                                      The rain-affected ground caused quite a bit of slipping in this contest, but the conditions was handled perfectly from the front by the Saffie Joseph Jnr.-trained DEAL OR NODEAL. The four year old held the call throughout and was always going like the winner, in particular when stretching the opposition to their limit once clearing the hill. A game 2nd last time out over further, she obviously enjoyed a return to the more fancied 7.8 furlongs despite being fairly high in the handicap. Super Dancer has done her best work at the shorter trips, and had been campaigned somewhat sparingly since her last win back in April. She was held up with lots of cover until produced steadily in the final three panels, showing something of her best form to get up late for second. Double Dagger's ultra consistency in this league was mentioned before, and he reiterated that fact with another sound showing. He like everyone else would not have caught the winner, but with a bit more pace in the final furlong could've held on for the 2nd-place cheque. Classic Burst tracked the winner for most of the way, but gave way grudgingly in the final furlong to sharper finishers.   [ROG]

*NO WINNERS; CARRIED OVER TO RACE #7

Analysis:                                                                                                                                         Hints of another success story in the form of VICTOR LUDORUM were again sounded when the Philip Batson-trained colt mauled the 33-55 group over 7.8 furlongs. Now unbeaten since a change of hands two starts ago, the son of Forty Mile is clearly a "new man" and looks set to be a good servant to his new and ever-patient "master". Full of running at the two and with little room to maneuver, apprentice Samuel aggressively seized the small window of opportunity and drove the colt through, and it was all over in a matter of strides once the big fellow saw daylight. Crowd fancy Fire Hill delivered a showing more in-line with what we've come to expect from her, following a dismal run a fortnight ago. She was in no way disgraced by the runaway winner, having been asked to concede a solid 16lbs to the victor. Zaltarr was cruising behind the leader three furlongs out, and looked poised for a fight down the lane. However, the gelding found little when pressed, and was maybe even shortening slightly late. Unconfirmed reports indicate that he may've bled during the race and this would certainly explain his lack of a "second wind" when it mattered.   [ROG]

Analysis:                                                                                                                                  Joint leading two year old SPELLBOUND reconfirmed her brilliance to all with another exceptional performance, this time adding winning black-type to her family with a gutsy score against fellow fillies. It was the first time the chestnut would be seriously pressed to the line by another filly but she passed the test emphatically, regaining the advantage late to score in near-record time. The time being that fast on a track was good-to-soft/soft in patches further proves her ability, but it was pleasing to see her keep composure late and win a fight when under duress. Runner-up Fedrica was blinkered for the first time for this one, and this in conjunction with the weight conditions certainly enhanced her chances. She finally took a fight to her nemesis but failed to change leads well inside the final furlong, and forfeited the win in deep stretch. Amanyara's final place ought to be given some credit considering she was well back after breaking poorly from the gate. She was six and a half lengths adrift of the winner in the end but made up perhaps twice that amount after the untidy beginning. Debut winner Princess Arielle was surprisingly well off the heat in early, and was given too much to do in the closing stages behind the runaway first pair.   [ROG]

Analysis:                                                                                                                                  Quite a predictable contest with the only exception being the surprise effort of runner-up Border Secret. The winner BOUNCEBAK, was again dominating in her performance making every pole a winning one throughout the nine furlongs. Backed down to 4/5 in the market, jockey Ward again went for the jugular early and "tricked" the opposition into a slow pace with another front-running masterpiece. The tactics were made more effective when none of the other five runners dared to stare the mare in the eye despite the dawdling pace. The only ones to alter their positions significantly throughout the race were John Brian and Border Secret who traded places just as the chips were thrown down. Border Secret had been having just her second outing in about twenty months and ran huge for her connections. To sit level at the weights with a horse the calibre of the winner and chase as close as she did gives expectations of some keen competition in the early part of next year. John Brian was closest to the winner for most of the way, until beaten for pace just over a furlong from home. He still holds his own to some extent with these horses, but is quite likely a shade below his best when venturing this far.   [ROG]

Analysis:                                                                                                          With the powerful Lord Michael Taylor stable already having a big day, it was not encouraging for their competition to see them with a tough 3-strong team for the males' division of the DIAP Royal Oak Gents Stakes. The team regained momentum after a dismal showing last meeting with four sound winning efforts in the day's major events, that point hammered home with a 1-2 finish here. This fourth one was perhaps the most impressive, as RUSH CUTTER fairly "trotted up" against a lackluster-looking group of colts and geldings. The colt duly delivered for his backers and looked mighty impressive in doing so, some consolation for his 4th-place finish last time out. The win also confirms that he is still at his best, and causes further excitement for what is shaping into a solid end-of-year two-year-old Championship on Boxing Day. The manner of his win (as he was virtually pulled up half a furlong out), was breathtaking and the final time was also a good one, though the stakes record was never in jeopardy. Stable-mate Island Lad is much better suited over longer as shown in his last two starts, however, he found enough pace to handle the short trip and finished fast behind the winner who was already well in hand. Atomic Bomb ran an improved race though still looking green in stages. He's still needs to "fill into his body" a bit, and as such may be an improved horse overall next year. Jihad did plenty in the final quarter of a mile to snatch 4th, having been significantly out-paced early on. He too still looks babyish and will certainly need more time to get it right.   [ROG]

*NO WINNERS CARRIED OVER TO RACE #8

Analysis:                                                                                                                                     This one looked like a race designed for speed and never fell short of that promise. Turning for the judge there was a charge of seven stretched across the track, but in the end TIME D'OR would prove strongest for apprentice Kenny John and trainer Liz Deane. The chestnut five year old was without a win for quite some time, though very close on a number of occasions. Last time out he was an encouraging 2nd to the talented filly Sweet Enough, and continued admirably from that form to again walk winner's row. 20/1 shot I'mjusttoomuch is still a maiden after twelve starts, but came closest to changing that title when closing late for the runner-up spot. Traffic problems between the two and one furlong markers undoubtedly cost him a closer finish and quite likely the win, evidenced by his willingness once free to engage the eventual winner. Janaki carried the joint top weight from a wide draw, and tried hard for jockey Walcott. A genuine filly, she hung tough to the end, though all out after heading affairs with another speedster for a long way. Total Eclipse continues to be raced sparingly due to leg issues, but usually gives a good account of himself. He's shown that he can decisively beat this company when at his best, and having been in an out of competition may've not been at his optimum.   [ROG]

Analysis:                                                                                                          Five year old mare STORM WARNING capped another solid day for trainer Robert Peirce with a hard-fought win over 1100 metres. It was the conditioner's fifth winner on the day, and tenth in 3 days this season, pushing his charges' earnings to well over $900,000, almost triple that of his nearest rival. The winner capitalised on a major mistake by the rider of runner-up Desert Orchid when holding the rail as that horse veered left after being hit right-handed. She was visibly under pressure late, but had done enough to get home for her fifth career win. Desert Orchid looks like a decent filly having only had two previous starts to her name. She showed a glimpse of talent last time out when weakening late after racing prominently and improved as expected, a run flawed only by that mishap two furlong out. Charletanne is also lightly-raced with the last run being some seven months ago. She too may've needed the run, and should not be over-looked next time out.   [ROG]
