Analysis:
The first race for 2010 and Melrose Racing/Naz Issa combination continued perfectly from where they left off with another daughter of Thady Quill when the lightly-weighted HAVE NO FEAR swooped late to break her maiden. Jockey Grant punched the filly right out to score his first win for quite sometime, after she raced comfortably behind the leaders through the first three furlongs. Runner-up Local Speed ran a much improved race, though still showing minor signs of green-ness when seizing the advantage just after passing the quarter-mile mark. He's a big rangy-looking fellow and should continue to improve with time. Favourite Island Lad looked helplessly in trouble quite a way out, much to the surprise of many for a horse who has been keeping much better company than this. The roguish colt is known to take a lot of riding to get going, and he wasn't really shaken up in the final quarter mile as one would've expected after he'd been under the whip as far as three furlongs out. That he was gaining considerably on tired foes in the final furlong suggests that he still could've won had the ride been more positive, despite the 128lbs he shouldered. [ROG]

Analysis:
At last another win for the now seven year old JUST JIVING, after lengthy drought from the winner's circle. The gelding had been racing fairly evenly ever since that last score, but got it right today despite loaded up with the top impost in the handicap. He's a renown one-pacer, and did the only thing he could've done to win which was to force the handy leader into more of a stamina test at the four-furlong marker. Saving ground all the way around unquestionably helped his chances, despite looking outpaced when the leader quickened initially. Deal Or Nodeal as usual showed a clean pair of heels to all for most of the way albeit through soft fractions. She tried to keep the pace only steady, but not keeping the rail to herself approaching the four furlong pole proved to be the catalyst in her undoing, but she again did her connections proud when going under by just one in the end. Gin For Me appeared to be full of run four hundred metres from the money but failed to follow through with that good-looking run. The five year old mare still looks in fine fettle and should have more to offer as the season progresses. [ROG]

Analysis:
Now four starts into a so far problem plagued career and the Andrew Nunes-trained ROCK STONE became another winner for her valuable dam Rebound. The daughter of Moon Solitaire showed plenty of scope when finishing a creditable second to the talented Janaki on her debut as an immature-looking two year old, but has been limited in her progression by a series of problems since then. She was always highly thought of, and the patience has paid off here as she easily turned back this group despite not starting since July of last year. It wasn't a stellar bunch, and though racing a little green down the lane, she still dismissed them with enough authority to suggest a promising individual. Charletanne appeared beforehand to be a fairly hard horse to beat after a pleasing third when returning to competition two starts ago. She was clearly willing in the final furlong but had been given too much ground to make up when allowed to amble through the first two to three panels. Sweet and Sour normally heads affairs from early, but appeared to be subjected to a change in tactics for this one. She conceded first run to the first two home, and found herself a bit farther back than ideal and with much to do in the end. [ROG]

Analysis:
Not a high quality field of runners, but a fairly competitive handicap it turned out to be with the winner WHO'S CALLING registering her second win from the last four starts for trainer Liz Deane. The daughter of Wild Escapade benefited immensely from a ground saving rail run, and had enough juice left to repel the ever-consistent runner-up in deep stretch. In addition she made it two in a row for her owner Aysha Syndicate and trainer Liz Deane. Storm Warning makes virtually ever start count for her connections, and looked poised to increase her tally to six wins when blocked for room just after passing the two furlong pole. She failed to get first run on the winner at that point, and with that horse inside of her and sailing trouble-free the result proved too difficult to reverse. Millennium Mile held the advantage for a long way but never looked quite comfortable having raced freely for most of the way. That she was still able to hold on for third while conceding weight to the first two home adds some credit to her effort though she failed to score today. [ROG]

Analysis:
Eight year old gelding INHERIT THE WIND gave trainer Liz Deane her third win on the day's card when scoring his second consecutive win over 1100 metres. Now scraping the bottom of the barrel where company is concerned, and afforded an ease in underfoot conditions, the dark bay looked something of his former self when finding plenty for Kenny John four hundred metres out. He's not the fastest to get going, but has a deadly change of pace; amplified in its effectiveness today prior to the leaders throwing in their towels two furlongs out. Soul Rebel ran close to his best form in this one, looking more like a professional than the wayward rogue he raced like in recent starts. Zaltarr was held up off the gallop today and never really harassed until finally shaken up when finding a passage late. [ROG]

Analysis:
Good horses often prove their worth when having to overcome adversity at a critical stage, and favourite PRETTY IN RED did just that against an average-looking bunch in this nine furlong handicap. Offered only at 6/5 by close of takings, the four year old chestnut went on to score another exciting win though losing ground three furlongs out. Most horses will take well over a furlong after such interference to regain momentum and their position; however the chestnut maintained composure and quickly put her deadly turn of foot to use, catapulting to the lead before the next marker. The manner of victory reinforced the filly's position of a legitimate chance of entry in the Tanglewood Stakes come March, when she'd be asked to stretch her talent a furlong more. Ned Kelly is developing into an honest fellow with a record showing no lower than second in three of four starts. Not a very brilliant individual where acceleration is concerned, the lanky colt was left toiling at the winner's mercy when the heat was turned up on the passive early pace. Batista was held up way off the gallop unlike most of his previous starts. This tactic saw the gelding with something to run at in the final panel, but also left him with a bit much to gain on the first two. [ROG]

Analysis:
Quite an impressive showing by Derby runner-up SHOW ME THE MONEY who came out the victor in what was virtually a two-horse affair. The son of Kit Fisto again proved that he's tons better on any day that he's given an enterprising a ride as this one. Ward went to the whip surprisingly early though, with the colt looking in trouble with as much as three furlongs to run; but he picked up admirably again in the straight and capitalised on a wandering Bird Watch for the last minute score. The handsome chestnut is quite capable of handling himself in this company, and with Champion Three Year Old likely to take his chances in the marquee event come Gold Cup Day, he may be poised to do himself justice in one of that day's other features. Bird Watch seemed to have it sewn up under three furlongs out when still handy as the winner was already being worked on. Defeat was apparent though when the colt failed to stay steady to the task, in the stretch and wandered a bit inside the furlong pole. That loss of momentum was evidently enough to bring the winner back into the picture upon reaching the distance, and enough to deny Aysha Syndicate and Liz Deane a treble of successes on the day. The first two were "miles" clear of the others at one point, and Don Portalsonny was the one to get closest; albeit only in the dying stages. Considering the handicap, he was figured to go much closer today than last time out when meeting similar, but the winner is equally talented on his best day and he proved it again. [ROG]

Analysis:
Following a series of disappointing efforts, the American Bred BLOUMBERG again came good with this decent win over 1100 metres. Now his second triumph at the distance, the four year old had turned in pretty lackluster efforts in his last five runs, but even the best of these came at this identical trip. He ran huge as a three year old in the Spa Sprint last year, and that race may again be on his agenda should all other things be equal. Dark Knight assumed command very quickly from the #1 box, but could not hold off the acceleration of the winner half-way through the race. However, his final furlong bid was a respectable one especially considering that he conceded 4lbs to the winner. I'mjusttoomuch seems to be always finding his best effort arriving too late and suffered that same fate today, though covering significant ground in the final two to three furlongs. [ROG]
